Things have actually become slightly better with my father, but my own situation hasn't changed - I still have to take care of myself as well as him.

The problem with being out of work is that I feel like I should be available to help all the time. One of my major problems is feeling a disproportional sense of responsibility; I need to remember that my sister and her hubby are available and share an equal responsibility with myself. And that's not to say that they haven't been helping, just that their efforts have not stopped me feeling like everything is on my shoulders.
Does your Mum have any other help , like from 'carers' calling in , and do you have any siblings living in the vicinity ?
So long as you are'nt working I'd suggest just do as much as you feel you can , to give your Mum a rest from time to time , and of course you matter too and I'm sure your Mum and Dad would'nt want you to be making yourself unwell by helping them ; I can understand your depression being aggravated by your having been spending most of your time being a carer , and missing out what you enjoy and a social life .
